Eyelash enhancers

An FDA panel recently approved a medication that causes eyelashes to be thicker and fuller.  It was discovered when patients taking certain types of glaucoma drops called prostaglandin analogues were getting incidental eyelash boosts.  Drops such as Lumigan, Travatan, and Xalatan were hot items in ophthalmology offices for this reason.

Dr. Kotlus at Allure Medical Spa often prescribes thes drops "off label" for his eyelid lift patients to give them some extra enhancement. Other options offered by Dr. Kotlus in special cases include eyelash transplants. It is likely that eyelash enhancement will receive more and more attention in the coming years. It's a great way to brighten up the face!

Reloxin - soon to be released

<

Reloxin (Dysport) is a to-be-released form of botulinum toxin type A, and is similar to Botox.  What are the differences? It seems that Reloxin is 1/3 less potent than Botox, but with adjustments in concentration, the two products should produce similar efffects. There have also been preliminary reports that Reloxin spreads out more. This may mean that a single injection can treat a larger area of wrinkles, but this remains to be seen.

The Reloxin brand is owned by Medicis, the company that produces the fillers Restylane and Perlane. It is likely to be released in 2009.

More Michigan men turning to cosmetic procedures

There have been many reports in the news about men having more cosmetic procedures.  This article describes how men are using more Botox (and soon the newest competitor, Reloxin) to soften frown lines and look more youthful to stay competitive in a tough job market. This is especially true in Michigan.

At Allure Medical Spa, more and more men have shown interest in Botox, GFX, and laser skin procedures such as ActiveFX, photodynamic therapy (PDT), and blepharoplasty.  Also popular among men has been fillers for wrinkles and laser liposuction for necks, abdomens, flanks, and chests.

Pictured above is one of Dr. Kotlus' patients after an eyelid lift.  Newer techniques allow for painless procedures with almost no downtime.

The lecture was well-attended and enthusiastically received.

Dr. Kotlus also presented research on ActiveFX and DeepFX, a fractional CO2 laser resurfacing device for wrinkle reduction, he presented his techniques for brow lifting using Bioglue, a surgical adhesive, and he presented data on large-volume fat transfer for facial rejuvenation. Learn more about Dr. Kotlus' research here.

Also on the lecture circuit, Dr. Charles Mok spoke at this month's American College of Phlebology meeting at Marco Island. He talked about the CoolTouch laser and its applications for both varicose vein treatment and modern laser liposuction.
